I need to figure a way around this issue.... |

I believe this issue with virus protection programs flagging GB32 programs as a virus will ultimately keep it from ever becoming a mainstream basic. I am not sure how to correct this but it needs to be done.

Hello, I downloaded this game a few minutes ago. Then decompressed the zip file. Then played. There is no problem. I use AVG anti-virus program on this computer. Do you know why?

Microsoft Defender which is the most popular virus protection flags everything. On some computers it actually deletes the .EXE unless the folder is marked as to be ignored. This is an issue...

Hi, Microsoft Defender on my computer(Windows 10) only displayed a blue box: asked me whether I still want to continue to run the EXE file anyway. |

My Windows 10 (older version) did that at one time but for me it is not a problem. I am concerned that after a few games are put up on Itch or some other forum they will get pulled down when they are virus checked and people complain. Especially if the virus program deletes the .EXE like it did on my friends laptop. I actually had to create a folder on his laptop called Larry's Games and tell his Microsoft Defender to ignore everything in that folder as all the .EXEs were getting deleted. If anyone wants to actually publish anything created with GB32, this issue will need a more global solution. GB32 will need to submit to various virus protection companies for White Listing...

This issue has been investigated numerous times but there is no easy solution.
However, certificating the IDE and OCX files will only prevent them from being pinged by anti viruses.
Programs written in GFA and complied need there own certification and/or need to be sent to AV companies for testing. This is due to the fact that, eventhough GB32 may be legitimate, it does not mean you can not write a virus with it.

My suggestion: start uploading and write a note on the game page of each your game about this issue on Itch. Most gamers are smart people actually. |

OK. That sounds logical. When I first began publishing GFA Basic programs it was for the Atari ST and we never had those types of problems/concerns. I will construct a detailed document regarding virus flagging to the user and continue my quest for knowledge as to how to submit games to platforms like Itch.

After a quick glance, I would say the second one is the better.
What I would suggest, however, is that you make it a simple text file rather than a Word doc because:
1. Not everyone can open Word documents
2. More importantly, Word documents can contain viruses and can be flagged for the same reason as the EXE.

We are however the addition of Sprite capabilities is priority. Once that is rolled out we will readdress the game jam. They still need to announce the theme choices for this jam.

Since "watching someone develop code" is even more boring than watching paint dry, I'll only bother to post highlights of any game progress in this GB32 forum.
Since I ran into memory limitations on this GB32 forum, I had to delete some of my old posts to make room, besides, posting everything about game development here (GB32 forum) would just clutter up the site. |
