I saw a discussion thread in a programming facebook group about a jam.
Our forum members who try to code games for submitting to the jam may successfully help to gain more exposure for our versatile programming language.

Anything will help except I did one late last year and it was a joke. It seemed like the same 3-4 people were the only ones involved in the 14 pages of the thread.

It is always worth a try as long as hopes are not high... Hello,
I think that the aim is to make a nice first impression on the public. An enjoyable game is the target.

My greatest concern is the fun factor. It will be so nice to see one or more than one GFA Basic entry in a public game jam. The entries will be the introductions to the programming language. I don't have enough programming skills for game programming. However, from my point of view, these may be important in participating in game jam,
a. Choose a suitable theme. b. Make a plan for developing your entry. c. Brainstorming.
d. Use tools which you are familiar with.
e. If you believe that you may not have enough time to finish creating assets, directly buy or download legally free assets.
f. Spend enough time on testing your entry. You should also ask forum members for testing your entry. (Your entry may not be run normally on some computers.) g. Polish your entry.
h. Good time management is important. Submit your game on time.
After you complete your game, uploading a video of your game to Youtube may become a nice promotion for the programming language.

To (X) and larrybtoys,
If you(or both of you) decide to join, it will be nice to create a thread(or threads) for discussion(or discussions) among forum members in the "Demos and Projects" sub-forum.

I am game for anything. I have already written over 160 games in GB32, several arcade quality (older arcade, LOL) and would love to get more people interested in GB32.

Mr. X may also make an entry. In conclusion, really great.
Both of you are enthusiastic.

Sure. I will take a serious look at the web-site and entry process tomorrow.

Sure. I will take a serious look at the web-site and entry process tomorrow. A lot of jams are hosted on Itch. I believe that the steps of submitting entry are simple.

This idea increases the interaction among members of the forum. This idea looks constructive. The name is appropriate. Nice! Will scalion also come here to discuss? One month only. I guess that a complete and entertaining 2D mini-game needs a development period of a few months.

Yes a few months would be right but the submission period is only for submitting the final game. Development can be any length as long the game is not completed prior to the submission period.
Any ideas out there for the game itself?
My thoughts are simple...We are trying to get more GB32 involvement from the coding public so the game should be something that the public will look at and say "WOW, you can do that with basic"

My submission was not on itch but some other site. I did not use their resources to host the game as it seemed to be more of a pain...I simply zipped everything and copied it to a folder on my web space and hosted it myself with a link on the web-site for judges to download and play.

Interesting. I assume the exe and ocx? Yes, the folder had a few other folders in it with instructions, images, sounds, etc. Everything needed to run the game.

No. That was my old domain when I had my manufacturing business but it was sold with the business in 2019. My new site/domain is retrocomputerstuff.com/I just put a hidden folder in the site that no one would be able to find/search for. As long as I provided the download link they simply had to click on the link and it would go directly to their download folder.

No. I used to use the Youtube channel for posting RC airplane videos but more recently started posting demos of GB32 games. I will add a link.

Looks like I may not include a link to my web-site in my videos as the process to do it is nuts!

Any ideas out there for the game itself? Wow. I can't believe. Both of you have written so many posts after I issued my previous post. Both of you must have a lot of time. I think that I cannot spend much time in this forum each day. Anyway, I modified the title of this discussion thread. Maybe other forum members will be interested in coming to give some great ideas about the event.
I agree....
In addition, I think that....
1. Enjoyable, many jam games are quite boring.
2. Complete, many people only submit incomplete games to jams.
3. Reasonable gameplay, the gameplays of many jam games are too weird.

What if we put the game in a GLL file and the only way to play would be to download GB32 and add it as an IDE Extension? See: APP+G ASTEROIDS, which should probably need to renamed to "ROCKS IN SPACE"... That would 'force' potential GB32 coders to download the IDE and get a feel for it. We could provide a link to an instruction video that would guide the user step by step. Hello, I don't know what you meant because I know a little about GFA BASIC frankly.
If you want to look into how to operate an Itch account, I can hand over (https://gamesgfabasic.itch.io/) to you. I think that this is the right time to hand over to you. Sure. I don't have time to make it attractive. I believe that effective promotion for GFA Basic will be generated if you use both your Youtube channel and this Itch account together to publicise GFA BASIC. The operation of an Itch account is easy actually.
By the way, today I added the link of your Youtube channel to (https://gamesgfabasic.itch.io/). Yeah!

Lets see how this goes... Hello, so have you decided to take over the gamesgfabasic itch account? I plan to send the password to you by PM of this forum. Then you can try to operate and upload your programs written in GFA Basic for promotion. Please reply. Thanks. You are good at telling interesting stories through images.

I wanted to cancel the account last year but I did not have time to check closely how to do. I will try to stop the operation of this account later as I really don't have time to maintain it.

All of those choices are good however if we want to showcase GB32 and get coders to look more closely at it we probably should consider a Shooting game.

X and I have been discussing some ideas for the Game Jam and feel that an arcade style game would be best to show off GB32 and hopefully get more coders involved with it. It doesn't need to be a particularly awesome game but needs to get coders to say "WOW, GFA Basic 32 can do that". We need to see how many members of this board are interested in getting involved. Please respond to this thread and let us know if you are interested as well as your skill area (coding, graphics, sound, animation, design ideas, etc.) It will be fun!

needs to get coders to say "WOW, GFA Basic 32 can do that". It is not easy to accomplish the above aim. Nevertheless, I have confidence in both of you. Oh, I don't have good skill but I will often come here to read this forum thread if I am not busy. I really want to eyewitness how the first community project(this entry) will be born. I will express my opinions at suitable moment, too.

Hi,
Sadly, I am unable to offer help as I am currently involved in other projects - and work - but will be interested in how this progresses. Are you going to post progress reports on this site?
