I'm an American (Colorado) and use English. Hi.
I've DL and installed GFA Basic but have some access errors from W10 when starting the program.
1) Access Violation: Exception 0xc0000005 which is a permission access problem with GfaEdExt in the title box when starting the program. The program seems to be OK after closing the exception box, but what do I know? It appears related to some of the extensions.
2) The Help files still need help. I took German in college but that was a long time ago. Even before my Atari-ST. The English option (Menu1) doesn't open anything. The Help Contents (Menu2) opens a selector, but when I select libraries it is all German to me. Most text is in German. The Help Topic (Menu3) does the same as Menu2 with text in German again. Hopefully just a file path thing in setup.
3) UpdateRuntime? Error -- Apparently, GFA can't load the library routine from 'UpdateRT'. I am trying to run the 'Simple Hello World' template. But the program never runs. I did get my simple text 'hello world' to open a window with a print statement. But I also get the access violation 0xc0000005 error on top of the open window for the 'hello world' program.
I expect my 3 problems are typical nuB stuff, but thought I'd report back the experience while still fresh. No complaints, I'm thrilled. I spent a lot time with GFA back in the day. Congratulations on all the work. It looks really nice.
I tried setting all the exe's to 'admin' access, but that doesn't help. I tried W10 compatibility mode back to W8, but that didn't help either.

Hi gravitywave, Welcome aboard, we'll try to get you up and running. A lot of us have worked with GFA-Basic 32 for Windows under Win95, XP, 7, all the way to 11, so I am convinced we can help. 1- Do you have the latest installation files?
2- Where or what directory did you use as install directory? The default: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GFABASIC32" is probably best. (If you want a prompt for new subdirectory when installing, I found I needed to uninstall GFA first, else the old install dir is used without prompt.)
3- The Help selection is specified in the Properties dialog box (Menu_bar->Extra->Properties or Alt-Enter)
Here you can select English. (The German help file is out of date compared to the English version.)

I know these are a lot of perhaps, but, once the install is working, we rarely see any such error. So, the cause is unfamiliar.
It seems GfaEdExt refers to a German pdf that looks to me like an editor extension document, so, if you select the "Englisch - English" option for the IDE language in the Properties dialog, perhaps #1: this would prevent error messages related to GfaEdExt.
Perhaps #2: In GFA's IDE Help menu bar dropdown, you can select:" Use English CHM Help" which uses the latest CHM help documentation.
Perhaps #3: If you are not setup in Win10 to use the older help documentation, you will have to download and install that capability. hlp_for_windows_10.zip (172.02 KB)
I hope this helps. Do let us know if you are still having problems.

If you want to start your code by F5 (RUN) you should press and you got an ERROR, here is the solution. Goto Project and select Compile Build, then press [Init Programm] and [Okay].
This is required only the first time you run the GFA Interpreter. When leaving GFA Interpreter and restart, you should repeat this step once again.

I never have this problem, running under win10 and win11... Very curious, i think i dont anderstand something about your problem because my english is very bad... (X) can you help me anderstand ?
I think that the person from Colorado couldn't do the installation properly. It looks like he would have chosen the German language from the beginning. Since the old help files require for an extra installation, he couldn't have seen them.
