Personally I think there are more GFA users than this board reflects. I have been using it since it came out as a free compiler. Six months ago when Windows 8 came about it made me re-think my feelings with Windows. So I migrated to Linux Mint KDE. Linux has many good programming languages but not many in the basic language. One called Gambas is a VB like program that works great but installing your work on another machine sometimes is a problem. Linux has dependencies much like Windows DLL's. Unlike Windows programs these dependencies are not included with your program. Many have to be installed manually which is not a big deal unless the libraries are out dated. So I decided to try out GFA running under Linux Wine and found it work just as well under Wine as it did under Windows. Now a complete program only needs the created program and the OCX file to be installed. It couldn't be simpler! So now I am back to using GFA once again. I think if more Linux users knew about GFA it would breath new life back into the program.

There are still a reasonably large number of GFA users to my knowledge. However, many use the mailing list to communicate which, sadly, tends to make it a closed society. While I understand their reasoning for doing so, by not using the Forum it appears to the outside world as though GFA Basic is dead. Good to hear that GFA Basic programs can be ported to Linux - let's hope the news spreads and people take an interest. As you point out, many other languages have numerous add on files and rely on the users having installed the newest libraries or OS updates - I recently wrote a short program in Java/Android and couldn't believe the baggage that accompanied my 200+ lines of programming, as well as how 'clunky' and rigid the language seemed after using GFA for so long. For all those who think that GFA is dead, it most certainly is not. Keep an eye on gfabasic32.blogspot.co.uk/.

Trying a new one:[deleted]
2nd Edit: It looks like the account has been restricted - I shall look into this shortly and report back to the forum.

Hi all, A quick update: We are still working to solve this problem, but it appears to be larger than originally thought and seems to revolve around the file itself rather than the account it originates from. Below is a quick link which contains only the .exe, .ocx and supporting programs: there are no help files, examples or sample libraries and the database is not included - hopefully this should work as a temporary workaround... GB32.zip (935.67 KB) Sadly, the help files are too large to include on this site and the links on other pages are down as well. However, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them on the forum.

The latest full GB32 download should be available from the link at the bottom of www.troycheek.org/gfa-basic-32 (10 MB). There's also a download link to some help files (2.5 MB) but I think they're a version or two behind. Edit: Thanks to dragonjim, I now have the latest version of the English and German help files available for download.

Thanks for that. If you have an email address linked to your web page, I can send you the latest English and German HTML help files.
